Reduce the number of species but make a more complete record?
- A more focused survey targeting a more useful indicator species, or "suite" of species, on this or other reserves.
- A more logical starting point for the choice of species might have been the available list of "Somerset Notables" ; this would present more ID problems but be more useful.
- An application of the method to monitor invasive species such as Winter Heliotrope.
- Concentration on the difficult groups such as Violets, or on other groups such as sedges, forget-me-nots or willowherbs.
- Use different species to "fill in" the spaces on the Total Records map, for example plot the different types of ferns found in the woodland, which would be an indication of the characters of these areas. At the moment little difference shows up, although in fact the composition (due to historical and other factors) is clearly not the same.
- Extend the range of the Recording Group to include school groups, DofE groups etc for any follow up recording.
- The technology enabling storage of GR records directly onto a smart phone as a spreadsheet will probably be available in a simple form next year. But I think there would still be a place for Orchid Bingo - it would be a shame to give it up.
