Common Spotted Orchid
Why?
Aims
It began in February 2012 with a mobile phone with a GPS app on it and the realisation that this technology could record the position of plants in a 10m square. From this the project snowballed.
The following aims emerged as the original idea developed. But without Tony Price and other staff at SERC it would never have reached this stage. Not only were his computer skills invaluable, but his conviction that the project was a Good Thing ensured its continuation.
David Northcote-Wright and Kiff Hancock of the Somerset Wildlife Trust were also very supportive.
AIMS
• The collection of valid data for the Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC)
• The involvement of as many people as possible
• The increase in ID skills and enjoyment of participants
• The trial of a very simple digital recording method with practical applications
