Critical features used for identification were:

Violets
In May 2010, the presence of both V. lactea and the hybrid V. riviniana x lactea was confirmed on the Reserve.. The distinction between these two was not always made in this survey, so the records have not separated them.
- sepals blunt = V. odorata
- sepals pointed, spur definitely darker than petals = Viola reichenbachiana
- sepals pointed, spur yellowish and notched = V. riviniana
- sepals pointed, petals very pale blue, leaves lanceolate with wedge shaped bases = V. riviniana x lactea OR V. lactea
- sepals pointed, not unmistakeably any of the above = V. sp
Milkwort and Lousewort
Milkworts
- lower leaves opposite = Polygala serpyllifolia
- lower leaves not clearly opposite or alternate = Polygala sp
Spotted-orchids
- lower lip clearly divided with longer central tooth = Dactylorhiza fuchsii or Common Spotted-orchid
- .lower lip more rounded with short central tooth = D. maculata or Heath Spotted-orchid
